A new category of therapy is revolutionizing the treatment of advanced sinusitis with nasal polyps at Mann ENT. The FDA has recently approved three injectable medications called Nucala, Xolair and Dupixent for the treatment of polypoid sinusitis, which often required multiple surgeries in the past. In addition, the problematic side effects of chronic steroid use, which was the mainstay for treatment of resistant cases, may also be avoided.
These Biologics are dosed every 2 to 6 weeks and may be self-injected at home if desired. A recent study additionally shows that the onset of relief of nasal symptoms after beginning these treatments may be as quick as 2 weeks.
